Vedic astrology uses the sidereal zodiac (based on actual star positions); Western astrology uses the tropical zodiac (based on Earth's tilt). The two are offset by approximately 23–24 degrees, which means your Vedic Rashi can land in the previous sign compared to your Western reading. Both systems are internally consistent — they just measure differently.
